Hello there!
Things for me to write about are starting to pile up, and it sure has been a busy week!
Thursday and Friday last week saw two birthdays at work, Cristina's and Patti's...and in true tradition i made 2 chocolate biscuit cakes!!! It seems mum's good old receipe is a hit he world over! I love birthdays, there was a really nice atmosphere in the store all weekend!
The week has also been quite musical, on thursday night me and Mark, (sorry, Mark and I.....working with people that have been taught English really helps with my grammer too!!!!), so, Mark and I took advantage of a 4 day music festival going on in the city.....New Music West....we went along to a bar called the Morrisey, and watched 6 acts perform. All were quite good, the idea of the festival is to showcase new music and local talent i think, so there were lots of events going on simultaneously across the city...there was even a bus to transport you around! One act in particular were quite interesting, with the line-up including a double bass - it sounded awesome!
Friday night we went to see Death Cab for Cutie and Franz Ferdinand, with Aaron. It was a big stadium gig, which i'm not sure either band had the perfect sound for....but was still great fun....we danced in our row!!!! Celine.....not sure if you got my message, but we called you when Franz were on...i hope you could hear!!!!! (and weren't in bed!!!!!). It was great to see Aaron also as we haven't seen him in a while. It was the last night of the tour and Franz F even smashed up their drum kit appropriately!!! There was one point in the set i really loved too....when they brought out about 20 drummers on stage.....the drums still make my heart beat fast!!!!
After the gig Mark and I headed to a bar across the water for Patti's birthday celebrations - a flamenco bar! We were just in time to hear the band and see some dancing...amazing, so much passion. The woman dancing was so commanding....elegant and graceful in the way she moved her arms and wrists, and strong and in control with the way she moved her feet.....just as a woman should be someone said!!
After the bar we headed back to Patti's to continue the celebrations. It was lovely, quite an intimate group of family, and we felt honoured to be there. Patti's sisters had made her a tradional Brazilian birthday cake and hundreds of gorgeous truffles. We spent time chatting with her parents, particularly her dad. It was very Brazilian and a really lovely experience to be a part of.
Tuesday night we headed out to the Plaza...local club to see Mylo perform a DJ set....plenty of dancing there!
Last night rounded of the musical week nicely with a meal out at Capones. It is a jazz restaurant, and as we were eating we were listening to some fab dinner jazz....complete with double bass again! We were out with Angela and Matt, Angela i met on my pottery course, and they have just moved to Vancouver from Edmonton. It was an excellent night, we all got on very well!
All in all a very hectic week!!!!...and i have a feeling there is more to come!!!
